Ingredients:



  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 lb boneless chicken (cut into small pieces)
  • 1 large onion (sliced)
  • 2 tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup fried onions
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup chopped mint
  • 2 green chilies (sliced)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice in water several times until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes.

  2. In a large pot, heat the oil and add the sliced onions. Fry until they are golden brown.

  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and fry for a few seconds.

  4. Add the chicken pieces and fry until they are browned on all sides.

  5. Add the chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, and yogurt. Stir well.

  6. Add the water and bring the mixture to a boil.

  7. Reduce the heat to low and add the soaked and drained rice. Stir well.

  8. Add the fried onions, chopped cilantro, mint, and green chilies. Stir well.

  9. Cover the pot and simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water has been absorbed.

  10. Once the biryani is cooked, turn off the heat and let it sit for a few minutes before fluffing it with a fork.
